Near Lords, London (1921)

Ghost laid with whitewash.

Until about three weeks ago, three artists living in studios within a couple of hundred yards of Lord’s, were the exclusive proprietors of one of the rowdiest ghosts in London. It had never been seen, but for the last three years has made so much noise by its hauntings that two of the artists had been compelled, as they have assured me, to give up sleeping there.

Rumblings on the roof and thumpings of the floor drowned all conversation, and made the studio floor shake. Now there is perfect peace. The ghost has been laid by a simple spring cleaning. Just over a fortnight ago, renovations were decided on, and buckets of whitewash were procured. The entire place was cleaned and freshly decked with snow-white paint. From that day not a rumble has been heard. It is suggested that the restless spook was that of a departed charlady.
