Naples, Italy (1905)

Ghostly Mysteries.

The two Neapolitan villages of Arenella and Due Porte, in the Vomero region, have for some days been in a state of great superstitious excitement. The house, occupied by a widow, named Morea, and her two little sons, in one of the villages, which are close together, has been the scene of strange freaks, of which nobody can trace the origin, though their reality has been witnessed by many. Food, furniture, all kinds of domestic property, and even the children’s playthings, are hurled about, disappear and are restored, without any trace being discoverable of the means by which these acts are accomplished. The story has got abroad, and for several days there has been a continual procession of sightseers about the house, great numbers coming from towns at a distance.
