York, North Yorkshire (1827)

 Singular Story.

A considerable sensation was caused in Skeldergate, in this city (York), on Sunday morning last, by the report that a Mrs Tyndall, who resides there, had seen her mother, who had been dead 13 years, and had been informed by her of the near approach of her father’s death, &c. It seems that this ghost, according to immemorial custom, announced its presence by certain supernatural knockings, which first awoke Mr and Mrs Tyndall, and was also heard by several of the neighbours who were afterwards called in. These are as positive as to hearing the noise, as the young woman is respecting the apparition, whose presence had such an effect upon her as to cause her to swoon away, in which state she was found by the neighbours, who were waiting the result of her entrance alone into the disturbed apartment. – York Herald.
