Kampung Seberang, Malaysia (1950)

Ghost follows girl.

F.P. Malay Correspondent.

A ghost which the medicine man of Kampong Ulu Seberang Perak, Alor Star, identified as a “jin tanah” or a “land genie” is terrorising the villagers there, Utusan Melayu reports. Efforts by the medicine man to drive away the ghost have proved to be of no avail. The “jin tanah” has been throwing stones and knocking on the walls and floor of the house of a Malay Abang Mat, of Kampong Ulu Seberang Perak since last Friday.

Abang Mat’s house has been visited by curious villagers anxious to see the ghost. A medicine man was immediately called as soon as the ghost made its appearance. He was powerless. The occupants of the house have had sleepless nights for the last few days but have not removed from the house.

Villagers believe that the ghost came from Bukit Tangga, Seberang Perai, to follow a 12-year-old girl who went to the house of Abang Mat. They base this belief on the fact that whenever the girl sat or stood, knocking was heard.
