Wistaston, Cheshire (1994)

Staff don’t stand a ghost of a chance against manifestations.

Ghostly goings-on have hit a new South Cheshire company since it moved into its Wistaston premises. Chairs move about of their own accord, unexplained bangings have been heard, and one member of staff has found the atmosphere of the property at Jackson’s Corner is just too much. Another staff member reported a sensation like having water splashed on his face.

The building became the UK base of Enviroquest Ltd, which produces and markets its own fuel-saving devices, earlier this year. But managing director Alan O’Neill, of Nantwich, is convinced there is more to Enviroquest House than meets the eye. He said: “I’ve had one person working here who only lasted two weeks, and said one reason he left was that he hated his office upstairs, because he always felt he was being watched.

“You get the feeling all the time – like someone has just stepped over your grave. In the first week in here chairs kept moving round by themselves. You could leave them, come back into the room, and they’d be in a different place.

“The building is a couple of hundred years old, and used to have a third floor. No-one knows why it was taken away.” But he says that despite the building’s spooks, it has a certain appeal. He says he loves the property, and would one day like to live there.
