Father’s ghost haunts shop.
The ghost of Chancellor Kenneth Clarke’s late father could be spooking an estate agents’ shop. Kenneth Clarke senior ran a clock and watch repair business called KH Clarke from the shop in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. Mr Clarke senior’s wife Doris sold the premises in 1974, some time after his death, and the building is now occupied by Cornerstone estate agents. But so many staff have heard the tapping of a hammer in the attic, they think the businessman may have been reluctant to move on. One staff member even felt his neck being tickled as he worked late alone. Files and boxes were mysteriously moved – and when the mirror rolled itself into the middle of the room and smashed ‘as if a hammer had hit it,’ staff called in a medium, who said it was the ghost of a small man.
