“Ghost” Reconstructs a Crime.
A Cardiff Scare.
Spook makes gutteral noise.
The latest ghost story comes from Cardiff. Five years ago a young woman was murdered in Bute-rd. The murderer got away and has never been traced. The fifth anniversary of the crime fell at the week end, on which day witnesses aver there was a ghostly appearance at the spot. The house is now occupied by three families and they testify to hearing loud and mysterious bangings.
At three o’clock in the morning on the gruesome anniversary one of the women in the house was awakened by noises in the kitchen, which resembled the smashing of the furniture and of pots with a hammer. She screamed out, and when she and others tried to open the kitchen door they found that someone was pushing from the other side to keep it closed.
They say that by light of candle they were able to look into the kitchen, and that behind the door they saw a powerfully-built man, with bare feet and wearing a faded khaki shirt and light trousers. They also heard the man make a gutteral sound.
The police were sent for, and when they entered the kitchen they failed to find any man there, and stranger still, there was no sign of disturbance or violence.
The occupants assert that just before the police arrived there was more banging in the kitchen, this time as if a load of stones had been thrown down, and then they heard the noise of a man passing upstairs. The footsteps came to a stop outside the door where the murder had been committed.
