Warrington, Cheshire (1958)

 Haunted? Now the Browns wonder.

Strange happenings at their council house are puzzling Mr and Mrs Stewart Brown, of Alpass Avenue, Warrington. “We haven’t seen any ghosts around, but we are beginning to think that way,” Mrs Brown, mother of 10, said to-day.

Stewart, aged 10, sat down in the kitchen.. And plop… he was struck on the back of the head by a tumbler which smashed at his feet. It had been on a shelf high above him, and there was no apparent movement to throw it off.

A few days later Mrs Brown was chatting to her niece in the living-room when there was another plop. Another tumbler exploded and pieces littered the living-room. “I don’t know whether its something in the glass or whether it’s ghosts, but it’s all very queer,” she said.

Mrs Brown is determined to put a stop to it. She had one remaining tumbler and she broke it herself. There are no more tumblers going into the house.
