Lightwood Green, Cheshire (1987)

This may not be convincing? But it’s interesting that such an explanation is given in 1987. And it is happening at the turn of the year, and they mention the border of two counties!

Police rule out ghosts.

A mystery stone thrower who is alarming drivers at Audlem has no links with the supernatural, police said this week. Drivers along the Whitchurch Road at Lightwood Green, near the Shropshire border, have been pelted with stones of all sizes, apparently hurled from a nearby field.

There were local theories that a mischievous poltergeist might be at work.

Police have searched the area following the incidents, which have all occurred at night. And a Police dog has also been on the scene -so far without success.

But local Police Constable John Latchford has no doubt that there is some perfectly natural explanation for the ‘bomb alley’ barrage. He said “As far as I’m concerned the talk about ghosts is a load of rubbish. I don’t believe in poltergeists, and I’m pretty certain that it is local kids who are fooling about – but in a very dangerous way.”

Police enquiries are continuing – but without the help of ghostbusters.
