Eerie Incident at Death-bed.
Picture responds to a call.
A remarkable death-bed incident has occurred in the Great Harwood district of Lancashire. An aged woman was lying on her death-bed, and had been frequently calling for her daughter, whose photograph was on an opposite wall of the bedroom.
Between the calls the picture fell halfway down the wall to a point immediately behind some massive ornaments. Then, in the words of an eye-witness, “it moved slowly in a horizontal line along the wall, took the corner and slid along the adjoining wall and fell at the foot of the bed on which the woman was lying.”
A remarkable feature was that the double cord had been severed in two places each about four inches from the hook. People in the room at the time were nervous about picking up the picture, but an ex-police officer was courageous enough to do so, and he and several other men tested the cord but could not break it.
To a representative in Manchester on Monday, Mr E W Oaten, the psychic investigator, said: – “I should think the explanation is that the dying woman’s body was giving up its psychic power and someone on the other side of life – perhaps the daughter – was gathering up this power in order to produce the phenomenon.” Mr Oaten added that he knew of dozens of similar occurrences.
