Suburban residents are baffled by a series of mysterious phenomena which have of late been occurring at places widely apart. The phenomena are weird as they are extraordinary, and though no harm or evil has accompanied them, they are nevertheless uncanny enough to instil a feeling of nervousness. Any sceptical attitude as to their reality in dissipated by the unassailable testimony of a member of the medical profession, as well as of the Catholic clergy. They come under the heading of “poltergeist” manifestations.
The first incident occurred at Mogra, on the outskirts of Andheri where a Hindu woman was washing clothes. She had completed her washing and hung the clothes on the clothes-line to dry when, according to her story, she was bewildered to find the clothes not flying about but making movements akin to that of persons dancing. Unable to believe her eyes, she screamed, and her cries brought on the scene some labourers from an adjoining field. They disbelieved her story and told her not to be silly.
As they were leaving the spot, however, they were amazed, they state, to see the clothes leaving the clothes-line and making for the wash tub! Their feeling of derision gave way to awe, and while some stood in silent surprise, others hurried and brought offerings. They started making puja at the well which now attracts a number of curious folk almost daily.
