A Ghost At Glyncorrwg
Midnight raps
The police consulted
Considerable excitement has been caused in Glyncorrwg during the last week by what is supposed to be a spiritual presence in a house situated at the back of the Queen’s Hotel and adjoining the parish churchyard. On a partition in the house, it is said, there are heard at regular intervals three distinct knocks, which are kept up between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Several of the inhabitants were called in to listen to the spirit rapping, and to endeavour to unravel the mystery, but without success. The rapping still continued, and the excitement grew more intense, and it was thought necessary to call in the local constable.
P.C. Sparks therefore visited the house, and heard the rapping, and made every possible search and investigation, but with no avail. The owners of the house were at last prevailed upon to have the partition pulled down, and this was proceeded with by two men, who timorously went to work. As the first plank was being unfastened, one of the men, in a subdued tone, besought the ghost: “In the name of the Lord what has thou to say?” No answer was made, and the remainder of the partition was removed, but nothing was found to account for the mysterious tapping.
The affair has created no end of excitement in the neighbourhood and still remains a complete mystery.
