“We hear from Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire, that a taylor of that place and his daughter were about Christmas last greatly terrified for some nights by the knocking and scratching of a ghost, which then haunted the house; and the taylor being one night in company with a gentleman to whom he had represented this dreadful affair, was advised by him to draw a circle on each side of the two doors, against which the knocking and scratching was heard, opposite each other; he accordingly pursued the gentleman’s council, tried the experiment, and is now ready to verify upon oath, that the ghost has since entirely abandoned the house. Great pity it is this gentleman’s advice had not been had in relation to the Cock-lane ghost. The gentleman lives but about ten miles from Aylesbury; and in like cases will give advice gratis.
