 The “Haunted” Mangle.

Some perturbation has lately been caused a Castle Street family by the extra-ordinary nocturnal performance of a washing mangle. Every night, at the same time – shortly after two o’clock – the handle of the mangle has turned of its own accord, continuing for some time, until it has just as suddenly stopped. The only explanation that the householders can give is that the mangle is haunted by its former owner, a lady who was very fond of this domestic appliance. In fact, one member of the family swears that she has seen a grey-haired woman standing by the mangle in the early hours of the morning. Every night, now, before retiring, the handle of the mangle is securely fastened by means of rope, with the result that the family now sleep undisturbed.
