Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow (1969)

 Riddle of Scots Prison Ghost.

Three men in Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow, claim they have an unwelcome cell mate – a ghost. The reported intruder in a cell in “A” Hall moved in on Friday night and since then, it is said, things have been thrown about to the discomfort of the occupants. According to one prisoner released from Barlinnie yesterday: “It’s the talk of the place among men and prison officers. One man is demanding to be moved to another cell. I have spoken to all three men in that cell and they insist it’s no joke.”

The released man said that at first a mirror flew off a wall. The men did not worry about that until, he said, mugs came off a shelf.

Nobody would comment on the reports at the prison, but an official spokesman at the Scottish Home and Health Department in Edinburgh said yesterday: “This is a matter of internal administration. And we do not comment on matters of internal administration.”
