Weird Noises.
Now there is a widow living in Louth to-day who can tell a great story of a haunted house. Over fifty years ago, with her husband and family, they occupied a cottage not far from Binbrook, and so uncanny were the happenings in the house, that they were compelled to give up the house and move to another part of the district.
Round about midnight the weird noises would commence. Footsteps would be heard on the brick floor of the kitchen below. Boots place near the fireplace ready for morning would be found on the table. A quantity of dough for the week’s bread supply has been found out of the big tin pancheon, clothes from pegs were strewn about the floor, and the most weird noises were frequently heard.
It was known as the “haunted” house in the district, and the nerves of the tenants became so shattered that there was nothing for it but to leave.
