‘Ghosts’ drive newly weds from  Victorian flat.

Newly-weds Graham and Jenny Wale travel 120 miles a day – because they are too frightened to sleep in their Bristol flat. The flat is in a Victorian house in Southfield Road, Cotham. Graham and Jenny claim they have seen shapes crouching in the corner of their bedroom, lights dancing on the wall and eerie shadows. They say they have heard footsteps which run up to their door and mysteriously halt .And they have been told rumours of a tragic death at the house.

Mr Wale, who works at a garage at Bathford, near Bath, said today: “I’m not going back there again. Jenny and I are staying with my parents in Bournemouth and we’re travelling from there to Bath and back each day just to avoid sleeping in the flat ever again. Jenny is very upset about it. There’s definitely something in the flat and I can’t find out what it is.”

The copule have had the flat for about six months. At the house, which is divided into bed-sitters, another lodger, Miss Gail Buchanan, said: “I’ve heard steps walking up the staircase. We’ve had taps turned on mysteriously and Jenny has rushed in here very late at night because she has been too terrified to go near her bedroom. It has been terrifying for all of us. Someone told us that a little girl died tragically in the house about 40 years ago, and we think it must be her.”

Couple quit over ghost fears.

Newly-weds Graham and Jenny Wale have quit their flat in a Victorian house in Cotham, Bristol, and gone to live with Graham’s parents in Bournemouth. It means a 120-mile round car trip each day to Bath, where they work. Reason: Their flat was haunted by a “shadowy figure.” They also saw eerie lights, heard footsteps and taps turned themselves on.
