Great excitement prevails in the village of Cheadle on account of an old house in the vicinity which is said to be haunted. Loud knockings on the wall, moaning, rustling of dresses, and trampling of footsteps are heard at night, but no trace has yet been found of the cause.
The owner of the house is at present from home, and extensive repairs are being made, but the workmen are frightened from the place, and hardly any of the servants can be got to remain in the house. – Stockport Advertiser.
