Chester, Cheshire (1988)

 Tails of the unexpected.

Spooky goings on of the canine kind have been brought to my attention by the new manager of Lowe’s jewellers shop in Bridge Street, Peter Gaston. Peter has been hearing from his staff about the unseen ‘residents’ who turn taps on and off, open and close doors and whose ghostly footsteps echo through the floorboards. The rooms above  the rows were once used as family accommodation, so Peter tells me he isn’t scoffing at the stories.

Besides, when he worked in Walton’s Eastgate Street shop, he had several encounters of his own with the spirit of a black labrador, which would scratch at the door to be let in, as he worked in one of the upstairs rooms. ‘I would often find myself absent-mindedly stroking the dog’s head as it sat resting it on my lap,’ he said. ‘But I only once caught a glimpse of it.’

Sounds like a job for Ghostbusters.
