An Inconsiderate Ghost.
The trouble caused by the unpardonable interference of a ghost is thus described in a recent issue of the Dallas (Texas) Herald:
“A strange domestic disturbance exists in a family whose place of residence is in San Jacinto street. The gentleman and his wife live alone, and while he fondly cherishes his better half, as she does him in return, they are both of the opinion that they will be compelled to separate. The wife, whom he married several years ago, has within the past few months developed into a spiritual medium, and so troublesome has this become to the husband that he admits that in order to find peace and comfort he will be compelled to leave his wife, whom he adores above all other creatures on earth. She, too, looks at the matter in the same way, and is free to confess that there will be no peace for them until the separation occurs.
The spirits manifest themselves unbidden by her, and, while they do not particularly frighten, prove nevertheless a source of great annoyance to her and her husband. The furniture is hauled about the house, the bed on which they sleep is tilted, and a thousand other mischievous pranks are played by the ghosts. The spirit that causes the greatest disturbance is that of a young man who was the husband’s rival for the hand of his wife, and which insists on them separating, having communicated to the medium the fact that it will never give them peace or quiet until they do so.
The gentleman is a respectable citizen and his wife a most estimable woman, and they had kept the whole matter a secret, hoping that the annoyance would cease, but the spirit in question becomes more violent each night, and he and his wife have mutually agreed to live apart for a while at least.”
