The “Dead Hand” at Richmond.
The District Excited Over A Haunted House.
Much excitement prevails in the village of Easby, near Richmond (Yorks.), owing to the report that a house there is haunted. Early in the week the occupants were alarmed by mysterious knocking and ringing of bells, and although a careful search was made of the house and the outbuildings no one could be seen. The noises continued at intervals during the night. Watch parties from the village and Richmond have been on the look-out for the mysterious visitor.
On one occasion, it is stated, a hand was seen on the bell of the front door, but when the watchers crept up it suddenly disappeared, and nothing else could be either seen or heard. A member of the watch party said that after they had remained in hiding for some time, not far from the house, which was empty at the time, they distinctly heard a great deal of knocking.
An organised effort is to be made to solve the mystery.
