 Epworth Ghost Walks Again.

Mysterious noises cause alarm.

Belton Road, one of the main thoroughfares in Epworth, seems to be the haunt of a ghost. Years ago, “Rowan House,” standing in its own grounds, and surrounded by several large trees, was the subject of several ghost stories. After being dormant for years the spirit must have again bestirred itself during the constructions of the Gables, headquarters of the Isle of Axholme Rural Council. On several occasions the temporary caretaker, during his nightly visits to the heating apparatus, had hair-raising experiences. Doors banged and windows rattled for no apparent reason, and footsteps were heard racing down the staircase.

Now the ghost is haunting an old house in Belton Road, 50 yards from the Rural Council offices. Mysterious noises are frequently heard in the neighbourhood. Pedestrians passing the house late at night have been startled. This week a motorist was so alarmed at the noises he heard coming from one of the old rooms that he stopped his car and tried to solve the mystery, but without success. Sometimes people seem to be walking noisily about the house or running up and down stairs.
