Gjøvik, Norway (1934)

 Hospital Mystery.

Antics of a jumping table.

The authorities of the East Titen Hospital at Gjoervik, are at present mystified by the behaviour of a table which, as soon as it is dark, begins to jump, states Reuter from Oslo. The governing committee of the hospital sat up a whole night in the room where the table is, but were unable to find an explanation of its mysterious movements.

It was after the arrival of a little girl patient that the table “came to life.” The table is between the bed of the girl and that of another. As soon as the electric light was put out it began jumping, causing such a noise that the whole hospital was awakened. As soon as the light was turned on the table remained quiet. When this had been going on for some nights, the committee decided to investigate, and spent the whole night in the ward. One of them sat on the table. As soon as the light went out the table jumped right across the room, it is reported, taking with it the man seated on it.

Two doctors with professional scepticism, refused to believe the story of the table’s antics. After they had spent a night watching they, too, were convinced. The walls, floor, and ceiling of the ward have been carefully examined, but nothing has been found to explain the mystery.
