Gujar Khan, Punjab, Pakistan (1951)

 Ghost fire scares Gujarkhan.

Rawalpindi, Oct. 30 (App).

What has been described by spiritualists as a diabolical work of some evil spirit, who have made a 12-year-old girl’s body as their repository, a ghost fire, besides actually destroying step by step a complete peaceful home, has also destroyed the sleep of the entire town folk of Gujarkhan, a tehsil of Rawalpindi.

Appearing to be suffering from a sort of paralytic fits the girl gets a spontaneous relief and looks all smailes, when some ignitable object in front of her all of a sudden mysteriously catches fire, which would end only by ending the girl’s relief period.

According to the local Urdu daily “Tameer”, this mystery fire started one day when the girl’s parents happened to be out in search of some spiritual healer. The first thing to catch fire was a door curtain. When the parents returned, they were simultaneously struck with horror and delight. The curtain was burning while their girl seemed to enjoy it quite smilefully. The fire was successfully put out, only to be followed by the same horrifying fit. Later followed similar mysterious conflagrations, resulting in the loss of practically the whole house, with all its articles, such as clothes, quilts, blankets, and furniture.

The latest conflagration – the most horrifying of the kind – according to the “Tameer”, occurred recently when a renowned spiritual healer tried to scare off the evil spirits with recitation from the Quran. The wretched fire burnt the very pages – thus adding to the ghastly awe gripping the mind of the people.

With their girl still in the grip of evil spirits, the unfortunate parents, now taking asylum in another house, menaced by similar mystery conflagrations, have issued a pathetic appeal to anyone in Pakistan capable to deal effectively with the evil spirits befallen on their 12-year-old daughter.
