Hiran Minar, Sheikhupura, Pakistan (1934)

 Mysterious Showers of Stones.

A story from Sheikhupura.

Sheikhupura, July 5.

A mysterious phenomenon of showers of stones from invisible sources is reported by a party of hikers and sight-seers who were bivouacking in the open space near Haran Minara, a place about three miles from Sheikhupura Mundi. This is a disused building with some historical and archaeological appeal, as it is believed to have been the hunting resort of the famous Moghul king Jehangir. The spacious building follows the style of construction adopted for the Golden Temple of Amritsar and is said to be connected by a subterranean passage with the dilapidated fort in the city here.

The party, which included some police constables, were gossiping when small stones were suddenly noticed coming from several directions. With the rise in the voices of the men, the intensity of the shower of stones increased. Loud inquiries on the part of the policemen as to who was throwing the stones seemed to incense the thrower, as the shower stones came faster.

The men then posted themselves on all sides to find out those responsible for the mischief but all efforts proved infructuous and the mystery remained. The shower was preceded by a noise resembling the splashing of water.

The men decided to visit the place again next day in larger numbers in order to solve the mystery. They went and found the same thing happening again. To remove all doubt a third expedition was organised, with the same result. The cause of the occurrence remains untraced. Villagers of the locality believe the place to be haunted. – A.P.
