Hitchin, Hertfordshire (1951)

 Poltergeists?

It’s all over now, but it was hair-raising at the time. Mischievous spirits at work at Hitchin Urban District Council’s rating office in Brand Street! Stones, pieces of coke, a key, belt buckle and other articles just dropped from nowhere. Gathered together and placed on a sheet of paper, left for a couple of hours, and no trace of missiles or paper. Completely vanished!

The work of a practical joker? Well, these phenomena sometimes happened when the office doors and windows were closed. Poltergeists? Your guess is as good as ours, but the happening has been “the talk of the town.”
