Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire (1986)

 Ghostly haunt.

One of the quietest events to take place in Lowewood Arts Centre, recently was the blessing of the building by the Rev. John Springbett, Vicar of Hoddesdon. It had been felt for some times that there was a presence in the building that was causing problems from a security point of view – locks which were firmly locked at night were unlocked by the following morning, objects mysteriously disappeared. When all the human elements had been eliminated, only the inhuman ones remained.

After an apparition had been seen on a busy Monday night by a Hoddesdon Camera Club member it was decided that perhaps the intervention of the local clergy would best serve the old building and perhaps lay to rest the ghost which roamed the house from time to time. Prayers were offered at various points in Lowewood including the Broxbourne Arts Council’s office on the top floor, where it was felt that there was some kind of odd atmosphere. Maybe this had been the bedroom of the spirit visitor when he or she had lived in Lowewood.

However, since the blessing took place the old house has “felt” more at peace with itself and it is hoped that the uninvited guest has now departed.
