Family plagued ‘by two entities’.
A family claim their lives have been turned upside-down by a catalogue of paranormal experiences. This week, a psychic went to their Hoddesdon home in a bid to rid the family of the strange phenomena they say have been plaguing them for more than a year. And the Mercury was invited along to witness an exorcism which began in a Cheshunt shopping centre car park. The family – a middle-aged couple with two teenagers and two grown-up children who do not want to be identified – spoke exclusively about the strange goings-on. They claim incidents, which first began happening at the eldest daughter’s home and shop, have included apparitions of ghostly figures, a feeling of being pinned down, paralysed and levitated, and unexplained loud banging and voices.
“It’s the most horrific thing you can go through. This week things have happened all the time. We’ve hardly had a moment’s peace,” said the mother, explaining that her youngest daughter had been “hysterical” and had temporarily moved out. “We can go weeks and weeks with nothing and all of a sudden it starts up again. we have tried to cope with it for so long. People think you’re mad,” she said.
The woman and her two daughters, who all claim to have psychic powers, believe they are being targeted by “entitires feeding off their energies.” The youngest daughter said she was “petrified” and her father, who has not experienced anything, said: “At first I did not believe it but I do now – I have seen the effects on my family.”
His wife said the experiences had stopped for a while after the house was blessed by a local vicar but they eventually resumed again. Last week, at a psychic fair in Broxbourne, she met Surrey medium Alan Bell who offered his help. Mr Bell went to the family’s 35-year-old house on Tuesday and announced that there were two entities there which he planned to remove. The mother shook and her face became contorted as she shouted out that one had taken hold of her.
Mr Bell, a past life therapist, said he needed to take the victim to a “busy place” and drove her to a car park where he began an exorcism ritual which was to last some six hours. Afterwards he said she “still has her problem but these things do not always go the first time. She is exhausted after a hard struggle but is getting her strength for a fresh attempt.”
“We are altering our approach slightly now that we know exactly what we are up against. We are dealing with two entities instead of the usual one which complicates matters,” he said, believing that the daughters were not now affected.
When told of the case, Hoddesdon parish vicar the Rev. John Springbett said: “There are strange things that happen and usually Christian prayers are able to allay fears and stop people being troubled. Going to a psychic is more likely to cause this type of trouble rather than help.”

Manifestations: they have been removed.
A Hoddesdon family which said it had been plagued for a year by strange phenomena was jubilant this week after a psychic helped to remove two entities. Surrey medium Alan Bell revealed last week how two daughters were terrified by the sound of furniture being “smashed to a pulp” in an upstairs bedroom and the sight of ghostly figures. They moved out and one refused to go back until the spirits were completely gone.
Mr Bell told the Mercury: “It is gone. There is no longer a problem. Everything is now fine.” The daughters were cured of the entities and stayed away from the family home but their mother was still experiencing problems, particularly with a feeling of floating, having weights on her chest and being pinned down. Mr Bell, a past life therapist, managed to release the woman from the entities on Tuesday. He said on Wednesday: “There was no surprise. It has taken her a week to get rid of it and the job was finished yesterday.” He said the woman had to put her energy into wanting to be freed from the entities and they would leave her body.
The woman was shopping in Hoddesdon when she contacted Mr Bell by phone to try and get rid of the spirits which resulted in the entities eventually leaving her body. He said the experiences of the family, who do not want to be identified, was one of his more interesting cases. “I have never yet failed to get rid of these types of manifestations,” he said. “It’s all to do with the subjects’ ability to manage their own energies by focusing their intentions and determination on ejecting these apparitions.”
Commenting on her strange experience the mother said: “The worst part was being separated from my two daughters. On Mr Bell’s advice they moved out and were not allowed any contact with me – even by phone – in case I communicated this thing to them.” She said she no longer hears crashing noises upstairs but the feeling of being pinned down, paralysed and levitated had persisted until Tuesday and had been making her feel ill.
