More amazing tales from the vaults of the M files.

Living with poltergeists.

By Andrea Thompson.

From the outside, it looks like any other terraced house in an inner city estate. But inside the house on the St Matthews estate, it is clearly not home-sweet-home for one Leicester family. A catalogue of strange happenings, supported by sightings and experiences of spectral activity, have confirmed this is a house where poltergeists are raging. And as paranormal investigator Andrew James Wright explained: “Things have reached crisis point.”

The spooky infestation has driven a mother and her children to avoid certain rooms, keep the lights on constantly, and even sleep downstairs. Even a member of the clergy, who has blessed each room, remarked on the sinister presence of the unwelcome occupant, which has forced its hosts to look for another home.

It all started with pictures falling off walls, curtains billowing, an electric oven being switched on overnight, a boiler which kept failing for no reason and constant rapping at the letter box when there was no one there. Heavy footsteps have been heard in empty rooms, along with whimpering cries of ‘Mummy’, and an inexplicable burning smell. But after the mother felt someone – or something – forcing her into the mattress while she was asleep, the situation became more serious.

Her youngest daughter claims she has been talking to her ‘eight little black friends’, while her teenage daughter firmly refuses to stay in certain rooms on her own. After a visit to the house, a psychic came up with the name Rose and research has since confirmed a woman of that name, who had several children, used to live in the house in the 1950s. Andrew was about to bring in Ghostbusters UK, the so-called ‘heavy mob’ purgers of the paranormal to get rid of the spirit, but his client has requested a halt. “She says there has been a 48-hour respite period and doesn’t want us to investigate in case we spark the phenomenon again,” he said.
