Antique setting for ‘ghost’.
A Lichfield antiques shop is getting ready to do battle with real ghosts and ghouls as Hallowe’en approaches. The Cathedral Antique Centre in Dam Street has been pestered by a spectre since it moved into the 17th century building eight months ago.
“Lights have mysteriously turned themselves on in the night, and we often hear bumps and bangs which cannot be explained,” say owners Sue Mealand and John Lloyd. The couple say staff sometimes feel sudden cold spots in the heated shop, which witnessed the grisly murder of Lord Brooke during the civil war in 1643. They believe their ghost may be Lord Brooke himself, and reckon he must feel at home among the ancient rooms and centuries-old goods. It’s not a bad ghost, they stress, just a nuisance.
