Lincoln (1990s)

The ghosts of two children are believed to be haunting a Lincoln home. And the hauntings centre around the airing cupboard of the Tilt family’s Victorian property off Monks Road. The couple told the L Files things have mysteriously disappeared only to be discovered in the unlikeliest places and pictures have fallen off the walls for no reason.

Philip Tilt (25) said: “My brother Adrian, who now lives in London, says he’s seen the ghosts who are two young boys. The weirdest thing that’s happened to me is that I was sitting in the bedroom one hot summer’s day when I suddenly froze and became all goosepimply. I came downstairs to the living room but still felt bitterly cold. In the end I just shouted, ‘go away, leave me alone’, and the feeling disappeared,” he said. Mr Tilt said a similar spine-chilling sensation can be felt on the fourth step of their staircase. He said the phantoms also like to flit across the room while the television is on casting shadows on the screen. And the strangest things also surround the airing cupboard.

He said: “The dogs we used to have loved rooting about in there among the clothes so we fitted special plastic catches to keep the door closed. But it still keeps opening of its own accord. Also when my brother lived here neighbours heard the toilet flushing late at night even when he’d gone away for the weekend.”

He said most of the happenings took place when people in the house were under stress. His wife Fiona (29), who works in the medical records department at a hospital, said: “You put things down and they mysteriously get moved. Philip’s brother lost some keys once and they turned up at the back of a wardrobe and Philip himself lost his wallet recently and still hasn’t found it.”
