House ‘spirit’ haunts Maria.
By Gareth Hughes.
A 20-year-old Clwyd woman claims to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown because of a “restless spirit” in her council house home. Lights kept going on and off of their own accord, ornaments move around, and bundles of clothes are upset, all of which has prompted Maria Littlejohn to ask for a move from the house in the centre of the village of Llansannan near Denbigh.
Maria has lived in the three-bedroomed house for about a year and the disturbances began soon after she moved in. She had to get rid of her pet Alsatian because, she says, he used to go berserk as if he knew there was someone else in the house. Maria then heard from villagers that a man had hanged himself in the house two years ago and that it had been unoccupied most of the time since then. “It is a lovely house but I can’t stay here while these things are going on. I have heard door handles being turned and piles of washing which have just been folded have suddenly been scattered about, said Maria, who has a seven months old daughter, Angela.
Her mother, Mrs Evalyn Littlejohn of Chester Avenue, Kinmel Bay, has contacted the Samaritans and other organisations in a bid to find someone who can help. “We are worried about Maria’s health as she has lost about two stones in weight since the trouble started. She is now smoking very heavily and cannot sleep though she is not normally a nervous type. She has been a nursing auxiliary and is not the kind of person to romanticise,” said Mrs Littlejohn who has herself been in the house when the lights have gone on and off for no apparent reason.
The Rev. Raymond Webb, Methodist Minister in Rhyl, has agreed to visit the house and discuss what steps, if any, he can take to help cure the problem. Meanwhile, Mr Seth Roberts, Colwyn Borough’s chief housing officer, said Maria’s plea to be moved to another house would be considered sympathetically.
