A Scare – Some of the inhabitants in the neighbourhood of Cardigan-street have recently been subjected to a scare, which at present remains unexplained. The occupants of a house were one night disturbed by some very loud knocking which was three times repeated. On the following night the knocking was again heard, and the inmates were terribly frightened, so much so that friends were called in to sit up on following nights.
On each night it is asserted came the same loud knocking at about the same intervals – three times. One night, it is further stated, as many as five men went to sleep at the house. Shortly after three they were all startled by about seven tremendous raps, which were repeated twice during the hour. One of the men called out, asking what was the matter, and opened the bedroom door, but he could get no answer, neither could he see anything. At present the matter remains a mystery.
