Mirabello Monferrato, Piedmont, Italy (1906)

Boy’s Joke Ascribed to Spooks.

From our own correspondent. Rome, 11 Dec.

The village of Mirabello, near Turin, has been in a ferment for several days over a shower of stones which was continually falling on the roof of the priest’s house. Search was made, but the cause remained undiscovered. Fourteen police were sent from the nearest town, but they could find out nothing, although the sergeant-in-charge received half a brick on the head.

At last people began to think the whole thing was the work of “spirits.” A final search revealed the presence, in a forgotten courtyard near the house, of a silly boy, who confessed that he perpetrated the joke.
