Montfort-sur-Meu, Brittany (1938)

 Haunted house mystery.

An expert in radiology has been asked by the French police to help them try to clear up a  baffling “haunted house” mystery in the town of Montfort-sur-Meu, near Rennes. A short time ago the mother of a local woman shoe merchant died, and mysterious phenomena started soon afterwards in her home. Two of her employees were astonished to hear strange noises, and then they saw a bed in one of the rooms turn completely round.

Subsequently a saleswoman reported that a handbag she had placed on a portmanteau suddenly jumped into the air, burst open, and the contents were scattered about. The bed also started its tantrums again.

Finally when packets of pins began disappearing into thin air and the employees received pricks in the back while electric light bulbs exploded without apparent cause it was decided to inform the police, who think some freak of magnetism is at the bottom of the mystery.
