North Bradley, Wiltshire (unclear)

 A Haunted House?

In the Wiltshire parish of North Bradley, where the victim of the Christmastide shooting tragedy was laid to rest, there used to be (writes a correspondent) a house subject to strange visitations. Loud bangs on the front door, jumping lights, an eerie sentry-go outside the bedrooms during the small hours, and even the unmistakable sounds of dancing on an upper floor, often teased the occupants with a sense of the occult. Those supernaturally inclined took the matter very seriously. Others, more sceptical, sought scientific causes, and talked largely of vibrations from an underground cavern. Guests with a sense of fun accused one another of practical joking. When I stayed at the house years ago, and certainly heard weird things, I accepted the phenomena – as Mark Twain accepted “The Pilgrim’s Progress” – as “interesting, but steep.”
