A council house family say: We’ve got a ghost.
A young couple and their four children have been living in fear since “ghosts” moved into their home. In three weeks 26-year-old Mrs Margaret Mullen has lost a stone in weight as the happenings went on…
Mirrors mysteriously turned and faced the wall; Cups fell from the mantelpiece, when no-one was near them; Noises – a strange scratching – were heard near the tv set; The toilet seat, for no reason stood on end.
Now Mrs Mullen, her husband Patrick, 26, and children James, 7, Mary Agnes, 6, Charles, 4, and 18 month old Katrina, all sleep in the one room. They are convinced their home at 94 Blackstoun Road, Ferguslie Park, Paisley, is haunted.
Farm worker Mr Mullen said: “It all started three weeks ago. At first we thought someone was playing a joke – so we kept a close watch. “But all these strange things kept on happening.”
Neighbour Mrs Lucy Docherty was standing in the Mullens’ hall when she saw their bathroom key swinging in the lock and the toilet seat standing on end. She ran back to her own house to get holy water. She said: “I threw it all around the living room. When I did so pieces of coal fell from the fire. I had heard Mrs Mullen talking about ghosts but didn’t believe it – until then I wouldn’t live in that house for a fortune.”
When the mysterious happenings first started Thomas Gillespie, 31, was living with the Mullens. He left to live elsewhere. Mr Mullen said: “He was scared to death and refused to live here any longer.”
A priest from St Fergus Parish visited the house and blessed the family. Mrs Mullen’s doctor called in a psychiatrist who visited the family and looked over the house. He said last night: “I took notes when I was at the house. I am not at liberty to discuss individual cases.”
Mr Mullen said: “We have lived here for seven months and don’t want to leave. But if things go on like this we will have to. Our nerves are shattered.”
