Nationalised ‘poltergeists’.
Ornaments, fire-irons and pans at Castle Dene, Prudhoe, have been hurled across rooms of houses to the accompaniment of loud thuds but without apparent cause. Following complaints investigations were made by council officials who discovered that the “poltergeists” are caused by shot firing in mine workings below the street. The surveyor was instructed by the council last night to make further investigations to ensure that the houses are not in danger from subsidence.
