 Eerie Knocks In Tenement.

Strange knockings, an apparition which moves through the house, lost keys, clocks that stop mysteriously, a wireless set which suddenly refused to function. These are some of the mysterious happenings at a Scotstoun tenement house which are puzzling both the occupants, Mr Alec McBain, a shipwright, and his family; his neighbours, and police who have been called in to investigate.

The family of four who had occupied the house previously perished in a blitz, a shelter in which they had taken refuge receiving a direct hit.

Here is Mr McBain’s story of the mysterious happenings: – “We moved in a month ago. The first night we heard knocks but paid no attention. The mysterious knocking was repeated on the three following nights. Everything was done to trace the source of the knocking. The cistern was altered; pipes were examined and workmen armed with feelers tapped doors and walls. Then we called in the police. After the knock sounded, one of them, a War Reserve constable, said he had seen a man – a thick-set fellow – pass through into a bedroom. Mrs McBain and a Mr McLaughlan also saw the ‘apparition’.”

A medium at a Glasgow spiritualist church – who was twice called said – “I am definitely convinced that the knockings are the result of supernatural phenomena.”
