Shad Bagh, Lahore, India (1960)

Troubled house draws crowds.

A local bank employee’s troubled house in Shad Bagh here has become a place of attraction for scores of spectators, who turn up in batches to witness the ‘magic doings’ of ‘evil spirits’. The brick-batting, apprehended to be done by some evil spirits angry with the family, continues from seven in the morning to five in the evening with short intervals for the last 11 days. It has injured four inmates of the house No. 212, one of whom has been compelled to seek asylum in a local hospital.

Brick-bats, the source of which hitherto untraced, and sudden fire, the origin of which is still to be located, have broken the window-panes of the house, destroyed the household furniture and burnt to ashes other valuables. The entreaties of two exorcists engaged for reconciliating the furious spirits, have gone unaccepted, and the police force could not rescue the tragedy befallen family of the poor banker. – APP.
