Stamford, Lincolnshire (1844)

 A Ghost Story.

A report is becoming very prevalent in Stamford, that since the death of an old lady who resided with some relatives in Broad-street, a variety of noises are nightly heard, such as the banging of doors, and knockings on the partitions, &c.

We hear the occupiers are becoming very much alarmed about the matter, and that arrangements have been made for a party to sit up in th ehouse for the purpose of watching. Amongst the young folks and gossips of the town, this circumstance has given rise to many conjectures and long faces. The credulous say that the old lady, having made a just will, is returning to adjust it. – Boston Herald.
