Mysterious stone throwing at Seacombe.
For some time past the inhabitants of Church-road, Bellevue-road, and other adjacent parts of these usually quiet portions of the ancient village of Seacombe-cum-Poulton have been considerably exercised in their minds by showers of stones, apparently meteoric, pieces of brick, iron, and other substances frequently falling upon the roofs of their dwellings, and into their backyards and gardens, breaking tiles, smashing windows, and doing other material damage of a serious nature, endangering the safety of persons moving about in the vicinity.
As no one has yet been detected in the act of hurling these missiles it has been popularly supposed to be due to supernatural agency, the belief being prevalent that the notorious Warrington ghost had migrated from the scene of its late exploits, as the stone throwing at Seacombe partakes of a somewhat similar mysterious character. The police have been informed of this extraordinary phenomena, and they will, no doubt, take means to discover the perpetrators of this dangerous annoyance.
Already several persons have been struck, many squares of glass have been broken, and other damage to property has been incurred. It is known that a gang of pigeon flying young roughs infest the neighbourhood, but whether they are the authors of the alarm and mischief is not known. However, it is hoped that the police will soon be able to clear up the mystery and put a stop to such manifestly dangerous proceedings.
