Wandsworth, London (1900)

A haunted house so near to the great metropolis as Wandsworth is decidedly interesting. In the Surrey Magazine Mr W.H. Moyes says:

Those who take an interest in places which have been haunted for many years will probably be glad to hear of a certain house which is situated near Wandsworth Common, but in May, 1887, was used as livery stables. The late occupants of it, a man, his wife, and child, had to leave it because they could get no rest at night, owing to the fearful noises which went on incessantly.

The sister-in-law of these people stated that one night, whilst she was in the house, she was taken by the shoulders and roughly shaken from side to side. Her husband stretched out his hand to take hold of her, but he felt, right up his arm to his shoulder, a shock, as it were, of electricity, which  made him cry out. Nothing was seen.

In the same room the clothes would be pulled off the bed at night on to the floor and then would rear up again on to the bed. Since these people left it is said that no less than five families have respectively occupied the house as tenants, but they, one and all, left it as soon as possible. It is now to be permanently intenanted.
