Warsop, Nottinghamshire (1823)

 Ghost Extraordinary.

A family at Warsop, near Nottingham, have, for the last five or six weeks past, been tormented with a supernatural noise, like unto the quacking of ducks. Every search has been made after these wonderful visitants, but, at present, without success; and, like the Cock-lane Ghost, it only follows the good woman to the house, commencing its quacking at three o’clock in the afternoon, and continuing till morning.

Many persons have been called in to hear the noise, and when the loving couple who are inhabitants of the haunted dwelling are in bed, they describe the noise proceeding from one of the bed posts. This marvellous occurrence causes funds of amusement for the gossips, and is the terror of the credulous and superstitious of the villages, but many of the more sober wish to have the pleasure of roasting these quacking visitants of the haunted mansion.
