 Ghostduster!

The charlady spook who does the housework.

For sale: A house with all mod cons… and a ghost who does the housework. The phantom charlady cleans the dishes, dusts furniture and tidies the rooms. And house owners John and Nancy Miller are very sad about losing their super spook. Nancy said: “She’s a real treasure and we’ll be sorry to lose her. We’ve never seen her, but we always know when she has been at work because she tends to drop hairpins around the place.”

John bought the 150-year-old former manor house at Weeley, near Clacton, fifteen years ago. It was previously the home of three generations of local squires who gave the village its name. Former owner Roger Weeley confirmed the houseproud ghost’s existence. He said: “It’s quite true. Once when my family lived there an entire dinner service was removed from a dresser, cleaned and put back. We found the whole kitchen had been spring-cleaned.” Roger and the Millers believe the helpful ghost is the spirit of a former family retainer called Mrs Heron.

Estate agent Mark Richardson said: “A lot of people are put off when they hear a house is reputed to be haunted. But Mrs Heron sounds so friendly and useful she could be a hidden asset.”

The price of the haunted house: A down-to-earth £105,000.
