Family ghost moved to couple’s bungalow.

By Chris Fidler.

Phantom furniture and telephones dialling themselves in the middle of the night are typical ghostly goings-on in one Wilbarston bungalow. Eddie Andrews (69) and his wife Jean (62) had their home built in Queen’s Road 40 years ago and ever since they have been plagued by things literally going bump in the night.

Mrs Andrews said: “We have had psychic experts visit us and they are convinced we have a ghost. We have had so many different things happening over the years you sort of get used to it.” She said the hauntings did not usually scare her but she did get worried when she was woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of furniture moving about in the attic.

One of the most bizarre happenings at the Andrews’ home occurred when they locked their car in the garage for two weeks when away on holiday. Mrs Andrews said: “When we got back the car had moved sideways, but the car and garage were still locked.”

Mr Andrews’ bike had its handlebars turned right round when it was locked in a shed, and when he took it to the bike shop he was told it could only have been done using a special key.

The couple used to live in Mrs Andrews’ parents’ house in Main Street in the village and when they left the new occupants said the house was haunted. They had seen what Mrs Andrews thinks is her father and his black dog. She said: “All of a sudden the hauntings at that house stopped and started at our new home.”

One expert told the Andrews ghosts can move from one property to another.

Spook in the works.

Riddle of the pedalling poltergeist.

Furniture going bump in the night has convinced a couple their bungalow is haunted. The sound of moving furniture in a bedroom is just one of a string of ghostly goings-on experienced by Eddie Andrews, 70, and his wife Jean, 62, of Queens Road, Wilbarston. However the couple say they have become used to their invisible house guest, after noticing spooky happenings for several years, and have no intention of moving out.

Mr Andrews said: “It’s been going on for years and everything really is strange. I would never have believed it if it had not happened to us. It does not worry us now – we are that used to it. Sometimes though we cannot sleep because we are expecting something to happen.” Mr Andrews said other bizarre happenings include the couple’s car changing position in a locked garage, pictures falling off walls, a display flashing on an unplugged video recorder, strange shadows of people moving past windows and crockery moving around the house.

The brakes on the handlebars of Mr Andrews’ bike were also turned right around while it was locked away – he was later told it could only have been done using a special type of key. Most recently telephones seem to have been dialling themselves in the middle of the night.

The couple say over the years they have contacted experts who have told them ghosts can move from house to house. They believe the strange goings-on could be down to Mrs Andrews’ father, whose ghost was spotted at his former house in Main Street in the village by neighbours several years ago.
