South African Stone-Throwing Mystery.
Inquirers Baffled.
Not pane left in two houses.
Police and unofficial investigators have so far been completely baffled in their attempts to solve the mystery of the showers of stones which have been descending from all directions on two houses in Worcester, Cape Province.
In one of the houses there is not a single pane of glass left whole. Servants have refused to live in the houses any longer, and residents have been reduced to a state of nervous exhaustion, as they never know when another heavy stone will come clattering through the windows.
Several watchers have been hit. Some of the stones weigh as much as two pounds.
Local residents are firmly convinced as to the supernatural origin of the visitation, which has now lasted some weeks. Stories of other magical occurrences are being told, such as a cat walking through a closed door and shoes being seen walking about a house without any feet in them, while food is said to have disappeared before the diners’ eyes.
