“Ghost” signals in Morse.
Neighbours hunt for Jarrow spook.
Eerie raps.
A “ghost” that replies to Morse code signals is alarming and mystifying the Henry Street district of Jarrow. Weird scrapings and rappings are heard at nights on the wall of a house in Henry Street. They are difficult to explain away as the work of a practical joker.
The “ghost” which made itself heard about a fortnight ago and has almost nightly aroused the residents since, apparently devotes its attention to the dividing wall of the houses occupied by Mr and Mrs McKivey and family at No. 9, and Mr and Mrs Croft No.7. Their nerves strained by constant repetition of the rapping, Mr and Mrs Croft have nightly vacated their home.
Yet still the sounds continue, although neighbours have convinced themselves that the house is empty.
The rappings occur at all hours of the night and investigations by residents has failed to reveal any explanations. Large numbers of people have heard the eerie noises.
Mr T. Rowland, an employee of the Jarrow and Hebburn Co-operative Society, last night signalled the “ghost” in Morse and received the same signal in rapping.
Portions of the flooring at the “haunted” houses have been removed, and a thorough investigation of the foundations made.

Spirit that can talk in Morse Code.
A “ghost” which almost nightly knocks on the dividing wall of two houses in Jarrow continues to defy the efforts of the police and amateur investigators to run it to earth. The knocking, which sometimes starts at 10 o’clock at night, and goes on till 4 a.m., has proved so nerve-racking that two of the tenants leave their house each night.
The “ghost” has even answered to signals given in the Morse code.
Flooring boards have been taken up and the foundations and dividing wall have been thoroughly examined, but the mystery remains unsolved.
Leicester Evening Mail, 20th August 1930.
All efforts to trace the “ghost” which has been disturbing and alarming Henry-street, Jarrow, for two weeks with rapping on a dividing wall have failed, though floors have been lifted and foundations examined. Investigators stood on both sides of the wall but the ghostly Morse tappings went on. One fmily is so disturbed that they will not sleep at home. Ingenious practical jokers are blamed.

Ghost Mystery.
Morse Code Rappings.
The removal of portions of flooring at houses in Henry Street, Jarrow, has failed to reveal the presence of the “ghost” whose nightly rappings have alarmed residents.
The uncanny visitor, who apparently understands Morse, made itself heard at No. 9 a fortnight ago, and has frequently since disturbed the occupants. The rappings occur at all hours of the night, and have been heard by many.
The “ghost” concentrates on a dividing wall of two kitchens, and the eerie noises have continued despite the presence of investigators on both sides of the wall.
The “ghost” has been tested in Morse and has rapped back in code.
A portion of the flooring was removed, but the mystery remains.
